Keywords: Reprogram reprgramming keys, layers, change layout

One of the most frequent feature requests on the CharaChorder is a way to customize the root key associated with any given switch press. While this feature is on the roadmap,

Discord user Elivgar had this tip for rebinding keys:

”I use the 'Touchcursor' software https://martin-stone.github.io/touchcursor/ It allows me to create a new layer by maintaining the space bar down (or any other key). For exemple Space+H is Left Arrow, Space+J is Down Arrow, Space+K is Up Arrow and Space+H is Right Arrow. I use this to keep close many functions without moving my finger from the Home Row. That disable the auto repetition of the Space but I find it very useful.

“I have also place Home, Page down, Page up and End on the row below the home row and Backspace and delete on the upper row, this for the right hand. Under the left hand I place Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Z (because I use a keyboard layout that have displace the X, C, V and Z keys all over the keyboard) That is not perfect, I have these function under my hand without the need to move it from the home row but frequently I paste something while writing out of the blue.”

If you experiment with Touchcursor as a method for rebinding keys and have success, please DM or tag @lamb on Discord with your your results so that we can update this article with more about using this app in conjunction with a CharaChorder.
